The Secret Life of Middle Age
Biography:

Pat Mitchell currently resides outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

Her post college years were spent raising her family and attending to the necessities of everyday life.  Pat kept a hand in the art world while working as the studio manager of an advertising photography studio, and at a Milwaukee art gallery as the controller.  Now that her family is grown, she spends her days in her studio creating mosaics.

Her work erupts out of life experiences and everyday objects.  Music, landscapes, and simple everyday objects inspire her.  Living in a climate that is mainly dreary and gray for much of the year inspires a craving for large sweeps of brilliant color in her work.  The bright shades of the short Wisconsin summer provide ample inspiration.  By breaking down a whole vista or subject into the small parts of a mosaic, she recreates and reorders the world according to her artistic vision.

Pat takes those things in life which might be taken for granted and brings them to the forefront to be relished and enjoyed in their new form.   In her latest work, she explores the revelation and concealing nature of ice in its many permutations and recreates it with vivid color and unexpected shapes.

Her artistic influences include Roger Brown, Frank Stella, and L.C. Tiffany, the warmth and solitude of Andrew Wyeth, the poetry of Robert Frost and Theodore Roethke, and the camaraderie of a group of Mosaic artists on the Internet and within the local Art Guild.
