How It's Made . . . The "Ice Series"
Step One: This is the first layer of my layered glass piece "Galactic Ice."
It's a mirror substrate with alcohol inks used for coloration.
The bright spots are alcohol inks mixed with metallic alcohol inks.
The additional glass pieces at the bottom are actually part of step two, below.
Step Two: Cut and glued glass to best convey the feel of the finished piece.
I also added some additional elements like cut guitar strings and millefiori to the first layer.
Step
Three: I added some additional alcohol colors on
top of the first layer of glass. This
dampens the effect of the background layer and strengthens the colors
as the glass is layered.

Step Four: Another layer of glass. This time I used a textured glass to add interest to the layers.

Step 4.1: This is a continuation of Step Four showing additional glass pieces being placed and colored. The purple "C" shape is cut glass that has been colored with alcohol inks and glued into this layer. The circle on the middle left is also a cut shape that has been added to this layer.

Step Five: Finished. I was unable to get photos of the last steps.
If you understand the process, finishing is just an extension of layering the glass until you're satisfied. In this case I glued some additional elements such as beads, and millefiori to the second last layer before applying the final layer of glass.

The
final layer of glass was cut like a star-burst (radiating out from the
center). In some of the seams I glued micromarbles for added
interest. As the glue dries and cures and becomes clear, the
details of the piece are revealed down to the base layer.
